Industrial Permissions
Why Industrial Approvals Should Be Planned Early
The cost of discovering a permission late, and the simple device that prevents it.
Every industrial project needs a set of permissions, and the set is different for each project. The common failure is not that a permission is refused but that it is discovered late: when the bank lists it as a disbursement condition, when the construction is ready and the plan was never approved, when the first batch is ready and the licence is pending.
Why late discovery costs more
Each permission has a prerequisite and a lead time. Discovered late, it stalls the step that depended on it, and the stall ripples through the schedule: delayed disbursement, interest during construction, a missed season, a production date that no longer matches the incentive plan.
The permission map
At the start of the project, list every approval that applies: the authority, the prerequisite, the documents, the lead time and the milestone it must precede. Standardise the figures (capacity, power load, investment) across all of them. Sequence the applications so prerequisites are in hand. Record each condition and expiry when a permission is granted.
A project-specific exercise
A generic checklist is a starting point at best. The useful list depends on activity, process, capacity, location, utilities, equipment and sector regulators. It takes an afternoon to prepare and saves months.
